Reserving a computer

You can reserve a computer in the library by going to the following address

Use your network credentials to login to the reservation system as well as to login to a computer in the library.  Your username and password the same one that you use to login to iKamva

Level 6: Knowledge Commons (KC)

Knowledge Commons provides students and staff with access to 90 networked computers. The computers are grouped into18 clusters, with 5 computers per cluster. Each cluster has one printer to which the 5 computers can print.

Users are able to access the Microsoft Office applications like MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint etc. Users can access the Internet to conduct research and have full access to the databases and other resources the Library has within its collection.

The library does not provide headsets, students will therefore have to bring their own headsets if they need to listen to audio on the computers.

These computers can be booked for 60-minute sessions

 

Level 6: Discussion Rooms

There are six Discussion Rooms located in the Knowledge Commons. These rooms can be used for group discussions. Each discussion room has a computer and users can print to the printer located at the closest cluster outside of the discussion room.

A discussion room can be booked by reserving a computer and can be booked for 60-minute sessions. You have to sign into the discussion rooms computer at your appointed booking time, in order to keep hold of your room reservation. Logging out of the computer in the discussion room ends your session in the room.

 

Printing, Photocopying and Scanning in the Library
 

Printing

  • This service is available from Monday to Saturday as per Library hours
  • Unfortunately, printing from cellphones, tablets and any Apple devices has not been enabled within the Library as yet.

Credits

  • Users need to load credits for printing, scanning and photocopying onto their accounts in order to be able to use these services. This can be done at the at the payment loading station in the foyer. If you need assistance in this matter then contact the cba representative at their office in the library foyer.
  • Black and white printing costs of 60c per page, R 1.20 for a double-sided page, Colour printing costs R1.77 per page, R3.54 for a double-sided page

Printing areas – Foyer (Print&Go)

This area is used for quick printing. Usage of these computers are limited to 7-minute sessions

The Foyer has 12 computers and four printers. Each cluster of six computers are connected to two printers.

 
Level 5: (Print&Go)

This area is used for quick printing including colour printing. Usage of these computers are limited to 7-minute sessions.

This area has 5 computers with each computer connected to a printer.

Colour printing is available in the following locations

Level 5: Reading Room (Print and Go), 5 Colour printers

Level 5: DASU, 1 Colour Printer

Level 7, 1 Colour Printer

Level 8, 1 Colour Printer

Level 11, 1 Colour Printer

Level 14, 1 Colour Printer

Scanning and Photocopying

Students are able to make photocopies and scan documents at the multifunction photocopy machines in the Library. Photocopying and scanning services are available to all users of the library.

Credits

Users need to load credits for printing, scanning and photocopying onto their accounts in order to be able to use these services. This can be done at the at the payment loading station in the foyer. Please contact the cba customer representative at their office in the library foyer if you need any assistance with photocopying, scanning or adding credits onto your account.

Pricing

Photocopying 60 cents per copy, R1.20 for a double-sided copy

There is one Multifunction Photocopier at each of the following locations

Foyer, Level 12 (Special Collections), Level 11, Level 13, Level 14

  

There are two Multifunction Photocopiers at each of the following locations

Level 5 reading Room, Level 7, Level 8, Level 10

There are four Multifunction photocopiers at the following location

Level 13: Research Commons

This area is reserved for Masters and PHD students.

Users are able to access MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint as well as access to the Internet to complete research. These computers give users full access to the databases and other resources the Library has within its collection

There are 30 computers connected to a colour printer.

 

Other Spaces

There are computers in the following spaces where users will be able to access the Microsoft Office applications like MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint etc, as well as access the Internet to complete research. These computers give users full access to the databases and other resources the Library has within its collection. Students can also view lectures on the computers. They will however have to bring their own headphones.

These computers can be booked for 60-minute sessions.

Level 7:

This space gives users access to are 5 computers connected to a colour printer.

Level 8

There are 3 computers connected to a colour printer.

Level 11

There are 3 computers connected to a colour printer.
