Use Unpaywall to find freely available research articles, including those from UWC Research Repository. Install the extension in your Chrome or Firefox browser, and when you land on a pay-walled article, look for the “unlock” tab on the right side of your browser and click. The Open Science Framework (OSF) is a powerfultool that enables you to collaborate on research and writing, keeping all your files, data, and protocols in one centralized cloud-based location. You control which parts of your project are public or private making it easy to collaborate with the world or just your team. OSF can be connected to other tools such as Google Drive, Dropbox, and Git to share data, archive data, track project changes, assist in project management, and more.
ORCID is the acronym for Open Researcher and Contributor ID. Organisations can integrate ORCID into digital platforms and workflows to reduce administrative burden and connect ORCID iD records with institutional repositories, publishing platforms, HR systems, grant applications, and more.
SAGE research methods online (SRMO) is a research methods tool created to help researchers, faculty and students with their research projects. SRMO links over 100,000 pages of SAGE’s renowned book, journal and reference content with truly advanced search and discovery tools. Researchers can explore methods concepts to help them design research projects, understand particular methods or identity a new method, conduct their research, and write up their findings. Since SRMO focuses on methodology rather than disciplines, it can be used across the social sciences, health sciences, and more.
Mendeley is a free reference manager tool that enables you to manage citations and PDFs using a desktop client or through your account on mendeley.com. It offers basic functionality and storage of up to one gigabyte (1 G) of data for free. You may upgrade to a paid subscription if you require additional functionalities or more storage space. Mendeley is compatible with MSWord, OpenOffice, and BibTex.
This reference management tool offers social networking opportunities. You can search the references that other people have collected, set up or join groups to work together and more. You will need to download the Mendeley Desktop to use when writing papers, and if you log into the web version you can add citations and papers to your personally created library from anywhere, using any web browser.
Note that you must always synchronise your Mendeley Desktop with the web.
