The ICS Department is excited to announce that the migration process to the new 10GB Fibre has commenced and your buildings will be migrated on
2 November 2018
In the near future the University of the Western Cape will benefit from the upgraded fibre network in the following ways:
The new network will support future converged growth and digital connectedness within the learning and teaching environments
Provide better download speeds and bandwidth utilisation for academic, administrative and research applications
Provide a stable platform that will enhance the end-user Internet and network experience
Ensure network redundancy in the event of network failure
Please note that there will be intermittent Internet connectivity (LAN & Wi-Fi)(between 9h00 and 12h00) to the following departments/buildings as ICS migrates these departments to the new fibre network:
School of Government
SC 7 - 9 (VLAN change)
Staff are requested, where possible/required, to make use of their 3G/LTE dongles to connect to the UWC network via VPN. Alternatively, staff and students can make use of the Wi-Fi connectivity in adjacent buildings.

Goodbye RefWorks - Hello, Mendeley!
From 1 January 2019, UWC Library will open an institutional subscription to Mendeley while discontinuing its account with Refworks.
Both platforms operate as digital libraries and reference management systems, but UWC has many more Mendeley users working with the "free version" than are using RefWorks.
Advantages of upgrading to an institutional Mendeley premium account:
personal storage capacity increases from 2GB to 100GB
number of private groups increases from 5 to unlimited number
number of collaborators increases from 25 to 100
Please note that Refworks accounts will be deactivated after December. We understand that this entails a significant transition for Refworks users but offer the following options to migrate data to Mendeley.
